County library's Bookmobile is back after 9 months

The Erie County Library Bookmobile was out of commission for most of 2014, but it's back in business serving readers.

The bookmobile returned in January after being out of service for nine months to undergo $30,000 worth of repairs, including an engine replacement.

"We have the best patrons," bookmobile clerk Julie Santana said. "Most of our people are regulars, and you can count on them to show up. You know who you're going to see, and we pull books that we know they'll like."

The bookmobile makes 31 stops across Erie County with about 1,700 items circulated per month, according to Santana and colleague Yvonne Nodes.

Santana and Nodes staff the vehicle together and serve an estimated 300 patrons per month.

"We have very loyal patrons. Usually they won't go anywhere else," Nodes said. "They tend to be friends as well as patrons."

"We really feel like we're helping the underserved, especially at the senior centers," Santana said. "Most of our patrons would not be able to get to a library if it weren't for a bookmobile."
